Our story

NexGen Pathways was born out of a vision to transform the employment landscape for individuals who face significant barriers to securing meaningful work. Our passion for building careers began with a focus on underrepresented groups, particularly Indigenous Australians and individuals in the criminal justice system.

Over time, our work expanded to include a wide range of industries, from Civil, Infrastructure, Supply Chain, Construction, Waste, Renewables, Electrical to ICT, Rail, Business Administration, Community and Allied Health to name just some of our sectors.

We are a strong “Can Do” organisation that is laser focused on building careers.

2019

Founded as Yalagan Group Training

With a mission to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through structured employment and training pathways we were born. Initial operations commenced with our application to become a GTO in New South Wales, focusing on traineeship management in civil, construction & infrastructure industries.

2020

Early expansion & workforce engagement

With our application to be a GTO approved, we ond year, the organisation began gaining momentum, successfully placing its first cohort of Aboriginal trainees into aligned industry roles. These initial placements laid the groundwork for scalable partnerships with employers and project stakeholders. Internal frameworks for mentoring and compliance were introduced, ensuring participants received holistic support throughout their employment journey.

2021

Strengthening National Footprint

By 2021, operations expanded westward into Western Australia, marking a significant milestone in becoming a national provider. The company started delivering pre-employment and foundation skills programs tailored specifically to the needs of Indigenous communities. These programs were designed not only to build confidence and capability but to prepare participants for meaningful career progression.

2022

Diversification of services

As demand for culturally safe workforce solutions grew, the organisation broadened its services to include training coordination, industry-aligned upskilling, and customised development programs. Strategic partnerships with major contractors across rail, construction, and mining sectors began to form, with multi-region projects supported by cultural mentors being rolled out for the first time.

2023

Community integration & innovation

A major leap occurred in 2023 with the establishment of a permanent training and operations facility in Welshpool, WA, servicing both the Perth Metro and Pilbara regions. New programs were piloted, targeting women in trades and individuals re-entering the workforce after involvement in the justice system. These initiatives showcased a commitment to inclusive pathways, supported by ongoing cultural awareness training for host employers and internal teams.

2024

Strategic consolidation & impact growth

This year marked the successful placement of over 300 apprentices and trainees since inception. With long-term contracts secured and new partnerships forming, the organisation had firmly positioned itself as a leader in Indigenous-led workforce solutions. Focus was placed on formalising impact reporting and expanding reach across renewable energy, logistics, and infrastructure sectors.

2025

Rebrand to NexGen Pathways

To better reflect its future-focused direction, Yalagan Group Training rebranded in 2025 to NexGen Pathways. The name signifies a renewed commitment to innovation, next-generation training delivery, and creating enduring employment outcomes for Indigenous and marginalised communities. The rebrand also introduced new service pillars across digital learning, group training organisation (GTO) management, and culturally safe education systems, backed by a refreshed leadership team and national strategy.
